What is 192.168.1.1 and what it is for?

192.168 llAll the web pages you visit, any computer from which you work and even the routers with which you connect have an IP address. It is a numeric code with which each device is identified, something like a license plate with which to know where they are and access them.

There are certain ranges of IPs that are not used on the Internet but are reserved so that companies and individuals can identify their devices in their own private networks. Today we're going to talk about two of them, the 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 that you've surely seen, and we'll tell you what you can use them for.

These are private IPs, addresses that are not used on the Internet, and are reserved for the exclusive use of your devices in a local network. You have for example your printer, the router, a video game console and a computer connected in a network through your WiFi, each of them will have one of these private IPs, although when your computer goes to the Internet it will do so with a public one that is assigned.

What are 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 for?

Address 192.168.1.1 is a private IP that many router manufacturers preconfigure so that their devices auto-assign them by default. This means that, in most cases, if you type it in the address bar of your browser it will be used to enter the administration panel from which to configure your router. And when it is not like that, the one chosen to replace it almost always ends up being 192.168.0.1.

Accessing the configuration of your router through these IPs you can change the name and password of your WiFi, open the ports, update your firmware or modify any type of parameter that affects your connection.

Even so, these two IP addresses are not always the ones chosen by all manufacturers. If you try to see that neither of them works for you, the manufacturer has decided to use another one. To check it look at the bottom of the router, where usually they usually come indicated, although it does not have to be always like this.

If there is no IP in the lower label, there is another way to get it. Press the Windows start menu and type Command Prompt. You will see that an application with that name will appear. By clicking on it you will enter the Windows console, from where you will have greater control of the operating system.

Now write the ip config command inside the console, and it will return a large amount of data. Search among them one in which you set Default Gateway, which will be the one that tells you your address.

How to use IPs 192.168.1.1 (192.168 ll)  and 192.168.0.1?

The way to use these configuration IPs of your router is very simple. Once you know which one is yours, all you have to do is go to your browser and type the corresponding one in the address bar. Do not put HTTP, or anything, just the numbers that make up the IP.

By entering this address you will see a window similar to the one you see in the image, and in which you will be asked for the username and password of your router in order to access it. If you have never changed it (we recommend changing it), look to see in the instructions, on a sticker on your router or looking for the model online. In case you do not find it and it is the router of an operator, call that operator to tell you.

Once you have done it, you will be able to navigate through the configuration page and change all the parameters you want, configuration or security. The design of these pages will depend on the manufacturer, that is, the experience and the situation of the menus may vary.

I hope now  you know much about 192.168 ll.
